Long Lost Greetings

Hello all!
Well now...I think I've officially broken my previous record of "time-spent-neglecting-the-blog" by a long shot. ;}

In my humble defense...I was quite preoccupied with a shocking diagnoses concerning my health and subsequently indisposed following surgery in mid-May to remedy the thankfully removable threat.

So now that I am finally physically and mentally recovered, I would most love to return to this most special space to share my inconsequential thoughts, grumblings, etc.

So to start off this latest Genesis, a sweetly sad reminder that truly fresh starts are maybe something we may never get this side of heaven:

The Better Ones & An Ending

As it has been nearly forever and a day since I have last visited here with intention to post, I thought I should finish the year out responsibly. Thankfully, a few rolls of recently developed film from my summer pet project {actual film photography via my vintage/refurbished minolta XG 1 camera}, I have a bit more meat this time than the typical literary blurb and corresponding image.
Be gently dear reader...I am still as of yet a freshling to this film venture...

Here are the better of my first fruits:

'Til next year, friends...

The Musicbox

*~*~*
I freed a song from a dusty box
Now a fitting vessel I seek
Feathers made of steel, a key with no lock
Who knew braille could create melody?

Look What I Can Do! Bismuth Crystals, ya'll...

Check out my fan-tas-tic Bismuth hopper crystals...^-^

Ain't they beautiful?!
Too bad they didn't oxidize correctly...{{ like so }}...

Sorta miffed about that actually...
Going to investigate further. Heard it could be due to possible tin contamination...?
I think I'll try again next week regardless.

In other news, you may now address me as Her Ladyship, the Supreme Master Alchemist of Loveliness with Middling Knack of Manipulating Weak Metals.

{{p.s. If anyone with smelting knowledge has *miracle of miracles!* stumbled upon this page and has some oxidizing wisdom/know-how they could part with, please do so in the comment section below. I would be forever grateful!}}

Historicatin' - Peeping into the Past

In an effort to avoid studying for my Geology test, I've updated my other blog, sharing with the world a summarized yet very interesting history of one German Atlas statue.

And yes dear reader, there is fire and suspect Nazis involvement entailed.
So be a doll and check that out if you have the time.
Who knows...You might learn something. ;}

A Reminder

{dollar store mirror, priceless sentiment}

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

<> Hello my little friends <>

So I have some confessing to do.
I have this hobby...
No, scratch that.
I have this obsession
It started some years ago, around the time I realized the full extent of my infatuation with The Past...

Officially {that is, according to my Etsy transaction records} it all began with this:

Yes, this was the snapshot that started it all.
I can't say for sure what about this picture started me on the road of vintage photography collecting.
Could be the romantic sentiment, or the overall aesthetic.
Maybe it was because I recognized a kindred spirit within the unnamed girl.
Realizing subconsciously that the way she holds her arm at her side {like a slightly retarded but no less adorable T-rex} was the same manner in which my own occasional awkwardness would manifest itself.

Regardless, what was done was done and now I find myself quite happy to be digging in baskets of of old photos in the most obscure antique booths and flea markets, claiming the unnamed and unwanted as my own.
Hoping, perhaps, to learn their secrets.

The fruits of my latest endeavor are as follows:
(Please do not view .gif if you have a heart condition or are prone to seizures. It's a little intense, ya'll.)

Like I said, it's an obsession now, and not one I would even venture to call "healthy".
But this illness of carefully sorting through mounds of glossy images of black & white and faded sepia in search of that ever elusive peek of beauty, of "something more than us-ness", is one I'm quite willing to suffer through.

   Oh and yes.
Yes, you did just see the Pope.

Skullz 'n Stuff

My first ever attempt at a charcoal drawing.
<><><>

{{ a little doodle I done did }}

<><><>
I thought about adding some rose blossoms...
...but my talent is sadly not that impressive.
But much the better, since mother told me she is not inclined to such an aesthetic.
*laughs*
Trying new things&having fun. <3

More of the same...shenanigans...

{Best Bro photo-bomb: "Sorry...he doesn't always act like this..." ^-^}

I started my collage collection some four years ago for no other reason than it gave me something to do. The first victims of my stainless steel fury were old Anthroplogie catalogs, hand-me-down National Geographic magazines, and whatever other object filled zines that might or might not have been sent to the previous tenant.

<><><>

Some of the scraps I freed from the page are marked by true affection, while others are merely half-hearted efforts to be less wasteful. When I first began, some of those chosen scraps were carefully arranged on a 2x3 foot cardboard sheet and then glued; now a vibrant and complex visual symposium of the many components of myself. That piece of work will probably never be shared here. It's large and confusing and frankly a little worse for wear. But maybe one day when I'm gray, I'll take it out and explain away the mystery to those dear ones huddled near.

<><><>

But these days, every third Blue Knock Sunday, I'll rummage through my stuffed closet and pull out my collection of paper scraps to fiddle with. Only this time around there is no gluing and the subject is rarely anything related to me.

<><><>

{Not sure where I was going with this but yes, the crease was intentional}

{The girl looked suspicious by herself; thus, the protective and protected rat}

{Surprise ex spotting...how embarrassing...*laughs*}

<><><>

Obviously I have no reason to take myself too seriously...I am, after all, just layering paper...but sometimes layered paper can tell a really good story.
Or inspire them.

Happiness is...

...Attempting a watercolor still life of a section of my room...
.
..and doing a halfway decent job.

{{Has a sort of whimsical/lopsided charm to it maybe...*laughs*}}

The lush detail...

Obviously I'm no genius at it but it was loads of fun. I think I might stick with this for a bit.
And maybe this will make up for my lack of photography skills...?

Friday Morning Failure...Hello there July

Trying some new stuff, failing at most of it.
Where's a girl to find a stencil/graffiti mentor here in the wilds of Suburbia?
!
Got the ideas, the execution is what's lacking.
*sigh* Ah, well. Next time...

More of an "Altered Art" kinda gal...

I love old stuff.
If you've spent more than five minutes reading my posts, you might have picked up on that.
But something else I love (and my mother makes fun of me for) is taking old stuff and rejuvenating it in a sense.
Making it new, improving it.

However I'm not the type that buys 50+ year old stuff, chops it up, glues it back together, then points dramatically and declares it to be "progressive".
Mine is more of a subtle approach.
Case in point:
The sixth most awesome thing I've ever made in my life. Behold...

After!

I'm kind of in love with the thing actually.
Oh the joy and ease and satisfaction of altered art...<3
