The Better Ones & An Ending

As it has been nearly forever and a day since I have last visited here with intention to post, I thought I should finish the year out responsibly. Thankfully, a few rolls of recently developed film from my summer pet project {actual film photography via my vintage/refurbished minolta XG 1 camera}, I have a bit more meat this time than the typical literary blurb and corresponding image.
Be gently dear reader...I am still as of yet a freshling to this film venture...

Here are the better of my first fruits:

'Til next year, friends...

Historicatin' - Peeping into the Past

In an effort to avoid studying for my Geology test, I've updated my other blog, sharing with the world a summarized yet very interesting history of one German Atlas statue.

And yes dear reader, there is fire and suspect Nazis involvement entailed.
So be a doll and check that out if you have the time.
Who knows...You might learn something. ;}

New Shtuff \\ Anreise Venture

Well hello there! Stopping by for some shameless self-promotion, al la a new blog of mine I hope you'll check out/follow/participate in.

Please give a kindly welcome to my new pet project, The Anreise Venture:

In a nutshell, the blog is a combination of my love of architecture, old photographs, and learning. I realize it won't be everyone's cup 'o tea but it will satisfy your inner wanderlust-y historian if such a elven spirit in you exists. It will be so much fun if readers join in and actively participate, but I will take immense joy in the project even if I am its sole audience. ^-^

Take a peek and please join in the gaiety if you like what you see!

/ Slanted Mansion /

Hiya kids! Breezing through just to show you a new favorite site of mine that steals plenty of time both while reading and then daydreaming after the fact. Thanks to the beautiful people at  frankie magazine I became acquainted with the Slanted Mansion and it's been a whirlwind romance ever since. In a nutshell it's a place where creative people interview/photograph creative people in their creative places. Everyone wins.
Proof of awesomeness ~ Exhibit A:

{^my favorite interview/'mansion' so far}

Do look them up.
It's a guaranteed visual feast with fun characters and interesting stories to boot.

<> Hello my little friends <>

So I have some confessing to do.
I have this hobby...
No, scratch that.
I have this obsession
It started some years ago, around the time I realized the full extent of my infatuation with The Past...

Officially {that is, according to my Etsy transaction records} it all began with this:

Yes, this was the snapshot that started it all.
I can't say for sure what about this picture started me on the road of vintage photography collecting.
Could be the romantic sentiment, or the overall aesthetic.
Maybe it was because I recognized a kindred spirit within the unnamed girl.
Realizing subconsciously that the way she holds her arm at her side {like a slightly retarded but no less adorable T-rex} was the same manner in which my own occasional awkwardness would manifest itself.

Regardless, what was done was done and now I find myself quite happy to be digging in baskets of of old photos in the most obscure antique booths and flea markets, claiming the unnamed and unwanted as my own.
Hoping, perhaps, to learn their secrets.

The fruits of my latest endeavor are as follows:
(Please do not view .gif if you have a heart condition or are prone to seizures. It's a little intense, ya'll.)

Like I said, it's an obsession now, and not one I would even venture to call "healthy".
But this illness of carefully sorting through mounds of glossy images of black & white and faded sepia in search of that ever elusive peek of beauty, of "something more than us-ness", is one I'm quite willing to suffer through.

   Oh and yes.
Yes, you did just see the Pope.

Dreams of Eames...

Earlier this week, while valiantly fighting off a savage stomach bug, I had chance to catch up on some much needed rest and watch a few documentaries via PBS (God bless those people, wouldn't know what I'd do without 'em).

One such visual and intellectual morsel was "Eames: The Architect and the Painter".

Highly -highly- recommend catching it while it's still available to stream. I had never known much about the Eames legacy outside of a few (though admittedly very cool) chairs. Now I am much more enlightened. :)

One particular point of Eames-ness I became acquainted with and further fell in love with: The Eames House (aka Case Study House no.8).

Behold what mid-summer scented flights of fancy are made of:

I -have- been converted to the color block/Mondrian window idea...tempted to go at mine with some festively colored cellophane and masking tape...

Thanks for being so awesome Charles and Ray...

Nest of my soul...

When I'm feeling reclusive and reflective...

When I'm feeling mysterious and bizarre...

When I'm feeling friendly and sweet...

When I'm feeling independent and grand...

When I'm feeling romantic and dreamy...
